Mother Gives Son Marijuana to Treat His Autism December 2009 --- Given the many challenges involved in raising an autistic child, parents are willing to try a variety of potential remedies, many of which are controversial and unproven. But one potential treatment that has gained attention recently.

The Unconventional Foundation for Autism (UF4A) was founded in 2009, immediately following Mieko Hester-Perez’s appearance on Good Morning America. It began with a mother’s decision to transform personal experience into a public platform dedicated to education, empowerment, and advocacy. Designed as an informational and community-driven resource rather than a fundraising organization, UF4A offered families worldwide access to evidence-based guidance, resource navigation, and peer-to-peer support.

Grounded in Hester-Perez’s enduring commitment to her son Joey, UF4A has grown into an international initiative promoting family empowerment through advocacy in conservatorship navigation, Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, and regional-center accountability. Independent of agency affiliations, her advocacy model emphasizes transparency, ethical oversight, and systemic accountability, strengthened by a multidisciplinary network developed through more than a decade of collaborative practice.

Today, Mieko has expanded this mission through CA Corporate & Attorney Services Inc., embedding UF4A’s principles of family advocacy, accountability, and inclusion into the firm’s broader focus on corporate compliance, education, and community partnership initiatives. This integration reflects a continued commitment to uniting legal expertise with human-centered advocacy empowering families, organizations, and institutions to create meaningful, systemic change.
